Lithuania has 5 major national parks: national park of Aukštaitija, national park of Dzūkija, national park of Suvalkija, national park of Žemaitija and national park of Kuršių Nerija (curionian spit).
Apart from the great national parks, Lithuania also has thirty regional parks scattered throughout the country.
Many national and regional parks are protected by the state.  Any type of activity you want to develop in them is strictly regulated. In addition, all parks in Lithuania have the status of ethno-cultural reserve.

VILNIUS – REGIONAL CULTURAL PARK OF PAVILNYS – CULTURAL RESERVE  KERNAVĖ – HISTORICAL NATIONAL PARK OF TRAKAI – NATIONAL PARK OF AUKŠTAITIJA – NATIONAL PARK OF ŽEMAITIJA  KLAIPĖDA-NATIONAL PARK OF KURŠIŲ NERIJA (CURONIAN SPIT) – RIVER NEMUNAS – KAUNAS – NATIONAL PARK OF DZŪKIJA

 

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LITHUANIA
Arrival at Vilnius International Airport, located 15 minutes from downtown. Pick up form Vilnius airport by a member of the tour operator “Discover Baltics”. Private Coach transfer to hotel. Dinner. Accommodation in Vilnius.

 

DAY 2: VILNIUS – REGIONAL PARK OF PAVILNYS 
Breakfast. Guided tour with official guides speaking, the historical center of Vilnius, listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO in 1994. Within the same time be able to see and visit buildings, monuments and most representative places such as the Castle of Gediminas, Vilnius Cathedral, Presidential Palace, the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, the Church of St. Ana, the University of Vilnius, the Old City, Jewish Quarter and the Gates of Dawn. Lunch. Free time afternoon. Departure by bus to visit the regional park of Pavilnys. Dinner at the restaurant “Belmontas” located in the territory of the park. Accommodation in Vilnius.

 

DAY 3: KERNAVĖ – NATIONAL  HISTORICAL PARK OF TRAKAI

Breakfast. Departure by bus to visit the first known capital of Lithuania, Kernavė, a small village located 35 km northwest of Vilnius. In it you can visit the archaeological site of Kernavė included in the list of World Heritage sites of UNESCO since 2004, which consists of a series of archaeological, historical and cultural, which include: the Kernavė own people, a series of forts, some unfortified settlements, burial sites and other archaeological monuments ranging from Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. The trip to another ancient capital of Lithuania – Trakai. The town Trakai is located just 30 km from Vilnius, on the shores of Lake Galvė, within the Trakai National Historic Park. Lunch. Visit the town and its famous castle of Trakai is located in one of the islands in Lake Galvė. Return to Vilnius. Dinner. Accommodation in Vilnius.

 

DAY 4: NATIONAL PARK OF AUKŠTAITIJA 
Breakfast. Departure by bus to visit the national park Aukštaitija, the oldest of the 5 national parks in Lithuania with its 126 lakes scattered among forests and hills. Arrival at the town Ignalina. Look around on the top of the hill Ladakalnis. The trip to the village Palūšė, where is the oldest wooden church in Lithuania. Lunch. During the tour of the park also will make brief stops to visit the ancient villages of Meironys, Ginučiai and Stripeikiai and visit an eco-museum, an old mill and a museum of beekeeping. Visit  the lake Tauragnas, the deepest lake in Lithuania. Back to Ignalina. Dinner. Accommodation in Ignalina.

 

DAY 5: NATIONAL PARK OF ŽEMAITIJA
Breakfast. Departure by bus to the national park Žemaitija. Visit the village Zemaiciu Kalvarija, famous for its Cross’ s chapel stations of Christ. After visiting the village Medsėdžiai, a part of Lithuania’s cultural heritage. Lunch. The trip to lake Plateliai, the most famous in Lithuania and the largest in this region, where you can fish, take a boat ride or a bike ride around it. In the afternoon departure to Klaipėda, Lithuania’s only port and third largest city, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Arrival in Klaipėda. Dinner. Accomodation in Klaipėda.

 

DAY 6: KLAIPĖDA
Breakfast. Tour with the guide through the Klaipėda’s Old Town, in which you may see some examples of German style building and its famous square of Theater. During the Second World War the city became a German submarine base, therefore, the city suffered many attacks in order to to be a German strategic location. Many things of its rich heritage have been lost, although there are still some vestiges of its glorious past that the traveler can discover. Visit Park of Mažvydas , the old Post Office Building and Clock Museum. Lunch. Afternoon free for shopping or enjoy the attractions of the city of Klaipėda. Dinner. Accommodation in Klaipėda.

 

DAY 7: NATIONAL PARK OF THE CURONIAN SPIT 
Breakfast. Departure by bus to the National Park of Kuršių Nerija located on the Curonian Spit. Transfer by ferry from Klaipėda to the Curonian Spit. The Curonian Spit, included in the list of World Heritage sites of UNESCO since 2000, is a narrow strip, consisting of sand dunes and lush forests that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. Stop in the small town of Juodkrantė to see the Hill of Witches (“Raganų kalnas), on which there are numerous wooden sculptures representing all sorts of fantastic creatures from stories and legends. The trip to Nida. Arrival at the town Nida, the main tourist destination on the Curonian Spit. Visit Parnidis dune and walk through the town. Lunch. Afternoon free time to enjoy the town Nida. Back to Klaipėda. Dinner. Accommodation in Klaipėda.

 

DAY 8: MEDIEVAL CASTLE S BY THE SHORES OF RIVER NEMUNAS – KAUNAS
Breakfast. Departure by bus in the direction to Kaunas visiting several castles (Castle of Panemunė, Castle of Raudonė, etc.) located in towns along the river Nemunas, Lithuania’s main river, which crosses the country from east to west and flows into the Baltic Sea. The trip to Kaunas. Kaunas is the second city in importance and size of Lithuania. Lunch. Visit Kaunas Cathedral, Town Hall Square, the avenue of freedom (“Laisvės alėja”) the famous house of the pagan God Perkūnas and several Gothic churches. Dinner. Accomodation in Kaunas.

 

DAY 9: NATIONAL PARK DZŪKIJA
Breakfast. Departure to National Park of Dzūkija. Visit the village Marcinkonys, which became a Jewish ghetto during the Holocaust. Lunch. Travel to nature reserve of Čepkeliai, a place full of swamps in the countryside, near the border with Belarus, a place that is still virgin. Back to Kaunas. Dinner. Accomodation in Kaunas.

 

DAY 10: DEPARTURE
Breakfast. Departure by bus from Kaunas in the direction to Vilnius International Airport.
