DESCRIPTION

VILNIUS-KERNAVĖ-TRAKAI-DRUSKININKAI-KAUNAS-KLAIPĖDAPALANGA-JUODKRANTĖ-NIDA-MEDIEVAL CASTLES

 

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LITHUANIA
Arrival at Vilnius international airport, located 15 minutes from downtown. Pick up from Vilnius airport by a member of the tour operator “Discover Baltics”. Private bus transfer to hotel. Dinner. Accommodation in Vilnius.

 

DAY 2: VILNIUS
Breakfast. Tour with English speaking guide to the historical Vilnius center, which is listed in World Heritage sites by UNESCO in 1994. Visit buildings, monuments and most representative places such as: the Gediminas Castle, Vilnius Cathedral, Presidential Palace, the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, the Church of St. Ana, the Vilnius University, the Old Town, Jewish Quarter and the Gates of Dawn. Lunch. Afternoon free time for shopping or visit some of the many museums in the capital such as the National Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art or the Museum of Genocide Victims. Dinner.  Accommodation in Vilnius.

Optional: After lunch visit the Užupis quarter (called “Užupio respublika“), known as the Small Montmartre of Vilnius.

 

DAY 3: OLD LITHUANIAN CAPITALS: KERNAVĖ AND TRAKAI
Breakfast. Departure by bus to the first capital of Lithuania, which was Kernavė. Kernavė is a small village located 35 km northwest of Vilnius. Here you can visit the archaeological, historical and cultural sites of Kernavė: series of forts, some unfortified settlements, burial sites and other archaeological monuments ranging from Paleolithic to the middle ages. Lunch. Trip to another ancient capital of Lithuania. The town Trakai is located just 30 km from Vilnius, on the shores of the lake Galvė. Here you will visit the national historic park of Trakai and its famous castle. Return to Vilnius. Dinner. Accommodation in Vilnius.

 

DAY 4: DRUSKININKAI
Breakfast. Departure by bus to the town Druskininkai, situated about 130 km southwest of Vilnius. Druskininkai is one of the oldest resorts in Lithuania. Lunch. Visit to Grutas Park to an outdoor museum, which exhibits sculptures of several characters from the Soviet era (over 50 statues of Soviet ideology). Return to Druskininkiai. Dinner. Accommodation in Druskininkai.

DAY 5: KAUNAS
Breakfast. Departure by bus to the city Kaunas, located about 125 km north of Druskininkai. Kaunas is the second city in importance and size of Lithuania. Visit the Kaunas Cathedral, City Hall, the avenue of freedom (lithuanian: “Laisvės alėja“), the famous House of the Pagan God Perkunas and several Gothic churches. Lunch. Free time for shopping or visiting the museums of the city. Dinner. Accomodationt in Kaunas.
Optional: After lunch visit the ethnographic museum of Rumšiškės in open air, near Kaunas.

 

DAY 6: KLAIPĖDA

Breakfast. Departure by bus to the city Klaipėda, to the only Lithuanian port city and third largest city, situated on the Baltic Sea. Visit the old city, in which you can see some examples of buildings reminiscent of Germany and its famous square of theatre. Dinner. Accomodation in Klaipėda.

DAY 7: PALANGA
Breakfast. Departure by bus to the town Palanga, located just 30 km from Klaipėda. Visit the botanical garden, amber museum and Birute’s Hill, which has wonderful sea views. Lunch. Free time in the afternoon to enjoy the charms of this small town and numerous shops, stalls and restaurants are in the main street which leads to a boardwalk on the Baltic sea. Return to Klaipėda. Dinner. Accomodation in Klaipėda.

 

DAY 8: CURONIAN SPIT

Breakfast. Departure by bus to visit the Curonian spit (lit. “Kuršių Nerija”). Transfer by ferry from Klaipėda to the Curonian spit. The Curonian spit (included in the list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO since 2000), is a narrow strip, consisting of sand dunes and lush forests that separates the Curonian lagoon from the Baltic Sea. Stop in the small town Juodkrantė to see the hill of witches (lit. “Raganų kalnas”), in which there are numerous wooden sculptures of witches, demonsand all sorts of fantastic creatures from stories and folktales. Trip to the main town Nida. Visit the Parnidis dune and walk through the village. Lunch. Return to Klaipėda. Dinner. Accomodation in Klaipėda

DAY 9: MEDIEVAL CASTLES BY THE RIVER NEMUNAS

Breakfast. Departure by bus back to Vilnius visiting several castles (Panemune Castle, Raudone Castle and others) located in towns along the longest lithuanian river Nemunas. Lunch. Arrival to Vilnius. Free time for last minute shopping or sightseeing. Farewell dinner. Accomodation in Vilnius.

 

DAY 10: DEPARTURE
Breakfast. Departure by bus to international airport Vilnius.
