Latvia

Some interesting facts about Latvia:

Latvia, the pearl of the Baltic States, is one of the European Union member states and is situated in the North of Europe – on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Since ancient times Latvia has been at the cross-roads between East and West, North and South. Therefore, Latvia is a multi-cultured state, where the traditions of all these countries have merged, creating a unique environment, the like of which is not to be found anywhere in the world.

What is Latvian:
More than a half of the Latvian population consider themselves Latvians – Latvians by origin and Latvian-speakers. Latvians are a nation which has inhabited the shores of the Baltic Sea for several thousand years. Latvians originated from the Baltic people and speak Latvian, which, like Lithuanian, is one of the only Baltic languages remaining in the world. Throughout the centuries Latvians have mixed with other nations, so as to their mentality Latvians share a lot with the Slavs and the Germans, the Scandinavians and the Western Europeans. And perhaps that is the reason why, as our visitors say, the most beautiful girls and the most handsome guys are found in Latvia.

Climate:
More than one world traveller has called Latvia paradise on earth, because it has no earthquakes, volcano eruptions, nor destructive tornadoes, devastating floods, harsh winters, nor burning heat, nor droughts. And they are, indeed, right, because Latvia is situated in the temperate climate zone and the weather conditions are influenced by the proximity of the Baltic Sea. Therefore the climate in Latvia is mild and humid, without extreme fluctuations in temperature; however, it’s true that the weather conditions are unsettled and changeable. Nevertheless Latvia has four pronounced seasons – winter, spring, summer and autumn.
